Sanitation tariffs are directly linked to the cost of water. To put this into perspective,for every kilolitre of fresh water a household use,there will also be charge for sanitation. The sanitation tariff is levied at 70% of fresh water consumption. This directly affects the price of water.

The tariffs are based on a sliding scale. The more you use,the more you pay. For example,if you use 50kl a month,you will pay R17.76 per kl (from 35kl -50),+ R13.01 per kl sanitation tariff.
